Interesting tip-bits of no Importance
Scatter count: 2!
Presto produces: three umbrellas of varying colours, two raincoats; a pair of giant galoshes/clown shoes; two giant sparrows (to disrupt the local eco-system), a nice green bandage and lots of tasty food. (my, it was busy this time!)
Bobby the "Magician" produces: lots of beer cans (empty and full), one magical explosion of indeterminate nature.
Portals missed: two this time, one in the forest, one “offered” by the Warlock.
New characters: Nasty Mr Warlock, Zilzad the Wish Imp.
Named Walk-ons: Chief Kalesh, Arhala, Smar and Haret.
Star Wars references: None. (sigh)
Groovy Objects: “The Conduit of Transference” from the Dragon’s Graveyard; one super-powered Bow of Evil.
Named Places: Mushroom Forest, Lightning Forest, Warlock’s Castle
Original Title “Switch-o Change-o” but that was too much of a give away.
Notes
On Continuity
The original notes said “set after the episode Dungeon at the Heart of Dawn”, but to make the other stories fall into place, it can’t be directly after DatHD. In fact, using the DVD sequence as the time-line, it has to be after The Time Lost, The Twelfth Talisman, and The Citadel of Shadow, which is a long time for this to fester.
There would probably need to be some sort of trigger, and if/when I get back to doing a proper revision, that’s something to add.
On Friendships
Hank and Eric; I just can’t resist playing one off against the other. I really don’t know how Hank managed to put up with Eric for so long, particularly after the DatHD when Hank is explicitly blamed for Eric opening the Box. I know Hank’s the leader, but there is only so much he can take the blame for.
On Weapons
As someone pointed out, they don’t immediately try each other’s weapons, they just carry on as normal. I always had the idea that the weapon was tied to the child, as they never, ever use each others, even in dire need. But why, especially since the Lizardmen used them fine?
The nature of the weapons is never explained, and we fan fiction writers are left to make up what we will. The idea that the weapons are “created” from dying dragons has been kicking around for ages – they did come from the Dragon’s Graveyard after all.
It’s easier and less messy if they just “know” they now have a different weapon, so the question then becomes how do they know. I suppose Good has to obey the rules where Evil doesn’t. Which is just a convenient way of sidestepping the whole issue.
But the question also raises its head in “Only Heroes”… but that can wait!
